This ad for the Travelers Insurance Company, circa 1945, features a very interesting design by Boris Artzybasheff, who was also doing brilliant covers for Time Magazine during this time. He was well known for making anthropomorphic machinery (like this monkey wrench). See also his famous cover portrait of Buckminster Fuller.

Now there's a name I haven't heard in a loooong time. I remember his Time covers and some of his ads. There's more here http://www.darkroastedblend.com/201.....-of-boris.html and here. https://flic.kr/s/aHsjo7xDL9
Thanks for the memory!

Someone posted on Facebook which reminded me of this stuff and I was mildly curious if he would show up here.
Your dark roasted link doesn't work anymore but here's a different one:

Artzybasheff's Hydraulic Press has always been one of my personal favorites of his works because I temped in a factory, working at one of those Cincinnati 5 ton hydraulic presses, stamping out sheet metal parts for steel desks. The job was simple enough, but I couldn't get complacent at the task because the machine could not tell the difference between the metal I was working, nor my fingers.
My introduction to the genius of Boris Artzybasheff was in the old Time/Life Science Books. I found some more of his work in old books and magazines when I worked in the high school library.
I worked for The Travelers for over four years and worked security for one of their sites even before that. I never saw this one before -- great find!
