This is an old old old project of mine back in 2006. Made this with a really old version of Blender 3d. I'm sure that program has grew by leaps and bounds by now. >_<

From my old gallery:
"This has been my most advanced 3d Transformation so far as of 7/7/06. It incorporates multiple materials, vertex groups, material keys, and shape keys. This animation would have included the use of fur through the use of blender's particle system and controlling it through the use of wheight paint to modify the length and density of the fur, which sureley would have been a treat for you if you saw fur sprouting through the skin. Unfortunately, I do not know an ipo curve for the transition between the two values of weight paint and thus cannot controll the ability for this model to sprout fur.
My favorite part of the Transformation is the claws... but that's probbably just me.
Anyways... Please spill fourth your thoughts on this animation! I'd like to know what you think of it! "

Resources:
I've used the hand from the MakeHuman project back when it was under MIT Licence(http://www.makehuman.org/) which allows me to freely use its mesh as long as I say...

I've also based my morph target using the image provided with Goldenwolf's paw drawing tutorial sadly, such a tutorial no longer exists on her site... how sad :[

This is really cool. Interesting take on it too, as the paws are usually depicted growing out from the wrists rather than the wrists pulling back. In this case the base of the fingers is at the center where everything else changes, which makes sense if you're trying to avoid unwanted distortion where more drastic changes occur. I didn't know you could morph color/material like this in Blender. Glad to see someone else using Blender for 3d morphs!
All in all, this is the same kind of technique used to animate facial expressions. The key to this kind of transition, is that you cannot add or subtract verticies. This is why making this was soo damned hard to do.
I appreciate your kind comments. Blender needs some more love and care ~<3
