Duchess Oriana DeLaVega learned to use a wide variety of weapons during her warrior training as the leader of House DeLaVega. The tradition of having the House leader learn not only the art, but the practice of war had never been lost from any of the four military houses, and the presence of the House leader was always a morale-booster.
Oriana, for her part, preferred to use weapons And tactics that kept the enemy at arms length and enable her greater lateral control of the battlefield.
But bred into her combat style and tactics was the DeLaVega’s preferred combat doctrine: Flexibility.
DeLaVega Troops were traditionally highly mobile. Cavalry in the old days, warbikes and chopper insertions in the modern age. But when ammo is spent, when the fuel is gone, you always have your sword, your spear or your fists. The purpose of Doctrine: Flexibility is to adapt to changing circumstances on the battlefield and make the terrain and circumstances work in your favor.
The enemy is at the top of a hill in a bunker? Patiently cut off their supplies. There’s a deadline? Quietly infiltrate or burrow. Hard target on the field? Give it death from a hundred small strikes.
Oriana never shied away from battle and in her own right was considered more than respectably talented with the spear.
If she could see what her daughter would do with swords, she wouldn’t know wether to feel honored or humbled... but either way, she would be proud.
