Pet-sized Dragon (Part 2 of 12)
Inexperienced dragon caregivers are often surprised at the species' uncanny ability to distend their stomachs. This survival adaptation once served dragons well, helping them recover from long migrations, and to take advantage of infrequent feeding opportunities during extended lean seasons. (It is rarely necessary or appropriate in a modern setting, where dragons are much smaller, and food is usually readily available.) For dragons in which this instinct remains strongest, an owner may resort to an ongoing routine of strict dietary management and corrective training. With time, they normally grow out of the habit.

You may have forgotten to mention the "Thrifty" adaptation of some dragon breeds which enables them to survive on less calories than one might expect. It's sometimes an important consideration in Dragon Husbandry, considering the propensity of Thrifty breeds to put on weight unexpectedly
