A while ago, I was brought in to write the music for an indie-made action RPG called "Sword of Legends" - a demo of the game was submitted to the IGF in 2009, but it's been put on hold for now and I might as well release some of the music I wrote for it.
You can see a video of the game on Paul Hubans' site: http://www.phubans.com/sol.html
This was to be the boss music, and is probably closest to the Modplug style that's more common in my gallery. In the list of music I was given to write, each piece description was matched up with a music from an existing RPG or game to demonstrate the kind of mood that they wanted. I think this might have been the one that I Jimmy-Harted the most blatantly from the suggestion - perhaps you can tell the RPG music that this was intended to sound like!

Argh, you always put up these messages to the effect of "this song is really suspiciously lifted from another obvious song, see if you can tell which one! (you should because it's obvious)" and yet I can never recognize them and it drives me mad.
I am getting a bit of an FF6 vibe from this one, but I'm probably just biased--I actually had FF6 in mind as soon as I read "RPG boss battle" before I even clicked play, just because that is possibly one of the best boss battle songs ever, and definitely what I'd ask for if I were the one asking you to make a song in the spirit of any other RPG boss battle theme.

FF6 Decisive Battle is it! It's actually nice, though, that you're unsure, because it means that the similarity isn't as completely obvious as I had thought. It's one of my favourites ever, as well.
I had to think about MEGA MAN series... and some STREET FIGHTER music.
Whatever, it ROCKS!!!! It really rocks, darn you're good. ^^ This is the kind of music, which doesn't demand much of the listener - except enjoying.
The slightly "8-BIT" style here makes a nostalgist like myself wheep.... XD Really, very cool. The rhythm is steady, powerful but not overpowering the melody. The synthesizer, which might be the main motive/theme instrument here, is just flashy and makes the whole song complete.
GREAT JOB!!!
And to know, that someone like YOU enjoyed one of my own songs honours me even more..... Thanks a lot for sharing your music, experience and comments. ^^

Well, thank you very much :) In turn, it's wonderful to impress a talented musician :) Thanks for watching!
I've been pretty stuck in the 8/16-bit style myself for a while (most of the other music in my gallery is styled like this as well even though they're not really meant to be... game music), so I think it just happened to line up well for an RPG soundtrack - Mega Man is another series that my music seems to be compared to quite a lot. I think that melody is a stronger point for me than my actual... technical skill at getting things to sound good :)
