Did you temper it?

Not realy i toss it in old motor oil to cool then sharpen and sand blast to clean it up. Its very high carbon steel so getting a stupid sharp edge on it isnt gonna happen

And i's liable to break; being so brittle.

Blacksmith tip: Heat up a block of iron orange hot and place the back of the knife on it and hold it there till the blade turns straw yellow. Then quench it in water by lowering it in back first.

Thats a simple way to temper a knife :D

hard to do, my forge is an old stainless sink with a fan blowing up thru the drain hole . Kinda hard to control heat

Yeah they are thick and you made them hard carbon steel. But the blade is brittle so if the edge hits something hard it will be more likely to chip rather than dent.

what kind of coal do you use?

not sure i got a buddy that works for ga power. He brings me a bucket of coal from the local power plant now and then. Iv used wood and even old tires befor.

o.=.o 5 bux says that coal is stove coal. Bad for smithing XP

You want bituminous coal, harder to find but iasking hardware stores to get it can work. I get mine at Aubuchon hardware stores. They can get it because the founder was a blacksmith and wanted smithing coal accessable.

I also adivese against using wood XD use charcoal; hardwood. Not Kingsford XP
