We do this every night ;)
Solidarity "sketch" done for
dracoloricatus a few months ago that I completely forgot to upload. They asked me to spend time on explicitly political protest art of my choosing. I love how easy it is to tell how long ago I drew this. I mean, just look at the size of that fence! So short! A medic without a respirator? Not lately.
I intended to showcase the sense of camaraderie found at the nightly protests. The joy of seeing someone you’ve been isolated from because you both cared enough to show up. Catching up while things are still quiet, before you have to mask up for tear gas and dodge crowd control munitions. You don’t show up because it’s fun, but because it’s necessary. And if you can steal some joy in between the anger and the adrenaline, I think it keeps you going when everything is as overwhelming as it is.
I miss when I didn’t feel like I needed to buy bulletproof vests to go back out, I’m terrified to encourage my friends to put their lives in danger. But ultimately people have BEEN dying because of this, dying because of police brutality and white supremacy and this fucked up country we are ready to fix. It’s why we go out in the first place!!! I’m experiencing the violence firsthand for the first time (thanks to my white privilege), but it’s nothing new.
Stay together, stay tight! Black Lives Matter!!!!

as someone in a faraway country I can only watch these things unfold, really, but I'm always amazed at the bravery of protestors, especially right now. things fucking suck, but especially those working to help others in amongst all that are amazing; a great picture showing that, imo
Thank you very much!!! Yeah honestly the sense of community at these things is so strong, not like anything I have experienced before to be honest! It’s very humbling. People are feeding and taking care of each other on a bigger scale than I have seen before. For example it is really common for people to treat homeless people terribly here, but at the protests I never see that, just a bunch of humans treating each other like human beings regardless of status. It gives me a lot of hope that things can be like that everywhere someday
Absolutely not!!! I'm not sure where you got that idea, but BLM stands for, is about, and always will mean that Black Lives Matter. That's it! But it's a lot. It means saying that hey, black people exist and they deserve to have lives that are just as full of love and happiness as white people. But because of both history and the present reality we live in, black people have it a lot harder than white people.
So we are protesting this, we want to break down the walls between black and white and just be people of every color and shade together. But for that to happen we have to dismantle the systems that keep the power dynamic unbalanced. And unfortunately, police as we have them right now are really holding up that unbalanced power dynamic. I'm not opposed to the concept of having my tax dollars go toward paying specially trained people to keep us safe from rapists and murderers.
But that's not what police in America Actually Do. Mostly they just harass poor people and make life hell for black people. And it's because of the bad eggs but it's also because of the system, and the system spoils all of the good eggs too. There are good people who become cops for the right reasons but either they become bad people because of the system or they get fired. There's plenty of evidence for all of this but I can site specific sources if you need me to.

I hope to do more politically motivated art soon. It's been hard to find time in between commissions but I do think it's important to make the antifascist presence here well known. You can report nazis who are blatant about it but yeah FA isn't the best website when it comes to dealing with fascist accounts
