oh tbh i'm bad at theory (and following my own advice) but if i sum it up, gather as many references as you need, and the only way to learn something is to immediately put it into practice.
aka, you need to draw a dog -- you get references of dogs, look up art, watch how people draw dogs on youtube, learn various tips and stuff from them -- then you draw your dog.
learning new stuff without immediate practice sadly means you gotta forget it and will have to learn again and again, and drawing something you aren't fluent in from the imagination is just plain and useless suffering. i personally wasted years of time struggling with this

i just mean, like, after/while looking at youtube drawing videos and tutorials you'd want to sit down and practice a thing you've just learned at least a little bit, or your brain just won't remember it at all. just a quick exercise to get really familiar with that new thing and memorize it for further practice.
i used to watch a lot of youtube tip/anatomy vids in a row and be like "oh i've learned so much" but i didn't learn shit because i look through million of those every day and my brain erases most of it to keep us sane, haha
and no worries!
