Was listening to Harry Potter on audio book, which I seem to be doing a lot on my job now, and felt the need for a house elf character. Couldn't seem to nail the ugly-cute thing quite as well as I had intended, and have repurposed my attempts as just a subservient goblin race. Totally original now for sure.

Foot goblins I call them. Or rather, the lower caste is the foot goblins. Upper caste being head goblins. A family can buy their way into the head caste, but wages are a pittance at the best of times for them, so they have a tendency to sell their own into servitude to help buy a better life. It works out well enough for them really, as foot goblins are raised from birth to be extraordinarily submissive. Even a foot-to-head convert can be easily badgered back down into submission. Tis in their culture and nature.
What is also in their nature is to go full-steam ahead with the whole foot thing. Keeping socks as their main source of stylish garments, otherwise wearing repurposed burlap sacks and pillow cases, as well as keeping a fascination with their masters' feet. It also makes them kinda shy about baring their own.

Anyway, that's the gist of it. A subservient race of foot-loving goblin servants. Could go further with them, or it could be one of my many ideas that don't seem to go anywhere. One-offs are fun too. =p
