Actually got the original idea from the naming of furies, light fury, night fury, both start with "ight" and so I thought blight, a fury with corrosive, decaying abilities, very gaunt and creepy, like death. Any and every creepy thing I could think of I added to up the fear factor as much as possible. In reality however, their frightening appearance is just that, an appearance, these dragons are skittish in temperament and prefer to avoid humans much like most furies.

EGG TO ADULT
- The eggs hatch within 3-4 months of being laid. Requirements for hatching rely on the parent's instinctual clock. When they're ready to hatch, the parents dig up the eggs and proceed to expunge their entire store of corrosive acid across the surface of the shells. This leaves both the parents and the young in an incredibly vulnerable state. When they first emerge, the hatchlings are blind, their eyes sealed shut by the contents of the egg once it makes contact with the air. It is then the parent's task to cleanse the blockage from their airways and eyes.
- After a few hours the hatchlings are able to walk around, but they'll rely on their parents to bring them food until around 5-6 months of age.
- The hatchlings remain with their parents until they're around 1-2 years of age, at which point they will strike out in search of their own territory. If the parents are gracious, they might permit the dragons to remain in their territory until they're older, furthering their teachings as they prepare them for the real world. This is rare, however, as by the time the clutch is 1-2 years old, the parents will have set up a new nest and driven off any remaining spawn.
- Once they reach a suitable spot, the dragons will each set up their own territory and guard it for life, or until the female finds a mate in which case she will abandon her old territory to join his, or merge if the two border each other.
TRAINABILITY
- Much like other furies, blight furies are extremely elusive and hard to find. Their territorial nature is another factor waged against the prospecting viking as is their heightened intelligence and speed. Along with this comes the other aspects of furies and their behavior, if you can obtain one at a young age and prove your worth as a suitable companion, there is a chance that it will choose to return the favor.
- The bond that you form with a fury is a life bond and is never to be betrayed.
- Initial approach is challenging, as they also possess urticating hairs on the underside of their ears and frills as well as the bulbous end of their whip-thin tail and the backs of their legs.
BEHAVIOR
- Blights are if anything, one of the most elusive of the already shy fury species, often avoiding even the company of their own kind save for their first pairing and mating season.
- Even with this solitary nature, there are two types, the fight and the flight. The fight are blight furies who hold an immensely territorial nature, attacking any living thing that crosses their path with a nearly sadistic passion. The flight are blight furies who would prefer to flee or hide from a threat rather than pursue it. The two can be differentiated by the number of scars they possess, more scars, more fights, a less...compliant nature. Those who are incredibly territorial tend to be the more difficult to gain favor from, but all the more loyal if success is found before your bones are melted to sludge.
- The babies are often a curious bunch, willing to explore and try new things with an almost audacious nature.
- Their incredibly intelligent nature is sub par only to night and light furies, still able to comprehend subliminal body language cues. Those in the company of humans for long periods of time can even comprehend conversations and read human body language with a frightening level of awareness, almost human-like, as most furies seem to be.
RIDING
- Riding them is incredibly difficult as they posses numerous glands all over their body that secrete a corrosive oil which they preen themselves with to protect their hide from the constant wear and tear of bayous and swamps (their natural habitat) as well as certain absorptive toxins such as those secreted by slitherwings.
- Riding is possible but requires a counter to the acidic oils on their hide, as long as the saddle and buckles are regularly maintained and treated.
HABITAT
- Blight furies reside in on swampy islands primarily in the south. While their residence does remain in the archipelago, the atmosphere of said islands are often humid and misty, covered in muddy terrain and large, brackish trees.
- They prefer deep, muddy pools, often residing on distant islands in the south, far from the reach of humankind and other dragon species. Their primary territorial threat is the slitherwing, as it will often sneak into the blight fury's nest and devour their eggs.
COURTSHIP/MATING/NESTING
- They're an incredibly stealthy dragon with a flashy side. During mating season the males will display the vibrant bioluminescence that all blight furies possess in order to attract a female. The brighter the green to blue hues, the more likely they are to land a mate.
- Like all furies, they mate for life, often spending months to years trying to find the right partner to pair with and will only lay one clutch every two years ranging from 4-8 eggs with clutches 10-12 being far rarer and often resulting in under developed young.
- Blight furies are oviparous, letting the eggs develop in the mother for a few months before they're laid in a nest of reeds and mud to sit for another 3-4 months. Much like crocodilians the eggs are buried, often guarded not only by the parents but by swarms of biting ants, repelled by the oils on the blight fury's shells and hide, providing the perfect defense to the growing dragons within.
- The nest is guarded 24/7 by one of the parents, each alternating on 2-3 day shifts while the other hunts. The remaining parent guard often spends this time in a half conscious state, partially submerged in nearby swamps or basking as they wait for the other to return.
- The eggs must be turned every day or so, providing equal heat to all babies inside.
- This requirement for an even dispersement of heat is the primary reason that larger clutches are less successful.
TITAN WING STAGE
- The titan wing stage is indeed a difficult one to obtain amongst the blight furies. Not only is an immense age required, normally around 90-100 years of age, but they must reach such an age in an immensely territorial and dangerous habitat. Facing numerous predators and rivals, most blight furies hardly make it to adulthood let alone reach such a powerful state of being as titan wing.
- As their primary mandible is not fused at the center, it is easy for it to become dislodged during the transformation, leaving the dragon with a split lower jaw capable of consuming larger prey as well as amping up the intimidation factor, given their increased size compared to their younger counterparts.
- Their eyes obtain a secondary pupil though the purpose of such a trait is still unknown.
VARIANT
A larger variation of this dragon is called the Fright Fury, which stands at 8-9 ft as an adult, 30-35 ft long, with a 50 ft wingspan. Their colorations are slightly lighter in some regions and they tend to be the first to gain the best territory. They lack the projectable jaw but are more likely to obtain a split jaw upon reaching titan stage. Their spines are shorter than the blight fury.
