After the first round and ideating for awhile with friends, I figured out the lesson that some tropes exist for a reason. When you think of a raccoon you don't exactly think 'large and in charge', some stereotypes are easer to digest for the viewer and let's the character get over more easily since they're an archetype or idea that the viewer is already familiar with and understands.
SO, theories of character design aside, I slimmed the character down a lot and gave him a slimmer athletic build. I opted for a digitigraded stance (though hindsight 20/20 I kind of wish I didn't due to how difficult it was to have martial arts scenes with them)
And opted to give him his signature sleeveless jacket.

Zach "chittering" reminds me of Strong Bad when he gets caught hiding in a bush costume. XD https://youtu.be/ioXdHLtWH1k?t=66
You're not familiar with Strong Bad E-Mails? (It's what we used to watch on the internet before YouTube and Streaming.) Here's an article from the Homestar Runner wiki that explains the show. (Homestar Runner was/is a website that had a bunch of flash cartoons with original characters. I know one of the co-creators went on to work on shows like Gravity Falls.) http://hrwiki.org/wiki/Strong_Bad_Email
