I think I have my reasons for making the doctos a cat more since felines are my personal favorite in the animal kingdom but also think about this. Cats are well known at least myth wise to have more than 1 life so the doctor with regenerations kinda makes sense. On top of that The doctors intelegent personality along with an ability of letting his curiosity get himself in trouble a lot fits rather well i believe.
