Out of the three main sabercat clans (called the Greater Clans), the Volkhorn are the most numerous, as well as one of the oldest, having been established before the fall of the Northern throne.
What the Volkhorn call home, the rest of the world would call a desolate, frozen wasteland, but they escape the worst of the cold Northern winters by having made their home in a long-dormant volcano. This provides them with radiant heat from the earth, as well as ground fertile enough to grow valuable crops during the short summer months (which are still near-freezing, due to the mountainous terrain).
They are of middle height (in terms of sabercats), with males standing between 13 and 15 feet, and females only slightly smaller at 12’ to 13’ being average. Both males and females are heavily muscled and rather broad, built like the quarterbacks of the saber-world. Males can easily reach a weight of 1000 or more lbs, females reaching 850 or more.
Color-wise, the Volkhorn look to be a cross between a bobcat and a lynx, ranging from light, ashy brown to a tawny gold. Their coats can also range from having leopard spots, to tabby, to no spots at all. However, their stomach, muzzle, inner limbs, and inner toes are always white, and their ear tufts are always black. The Volkhorn’s eye color can also range wildly, from muddy brown to gold to lemon yellow. Sometimes, rarely, green eyes can be found among them.
The Volkhorn are the most amiable of the three Greater Clans, and make a living trading with merchants who then resell the items and livestock at lower (and warmer) climes. They are most well-known for their fur items, but are also skilled jewelers and occasionally a potter of some skill will come from the clan.
Their life spans are relatively short in human standards, living to an average age of 60. The oldest recorded member of the Volkhorn clan lived to be in her 80s.
