I decided to do a redraw of an old picture after a weird comment drew my attention to it again. So here's my old Glass Prison idea, now in high-quality HD!
The idea is that, in a fantasy world, powerful mages are often difficult to keep in normal prisons. The solution? Glass golems! Crafted from glass and then animated via magic, these golems are powerful juggernauts, hunting down their intended prey with purpose and determination. In spite of the glass appearance, they are incredibly sturdy and strong; when created, they are programmed with a specific target in mind, and immediately begin to seek out that target.
Once they capture said target, they swallow them. Their throat and belly deforms once, and only once, trapping the offender inside forever. The enchantment that grants life to the golem also extends the life of the one trapped inside, making them effectively immortal! But the golem's belly is almost entirely impenetrable, magic-proof, and soundproof (even to the golem) so they're removed from society and can't do any more harm.
The golem can't be reused, so with her mission complete, she is set free and allowed to do whatever she wishes with herself! Of course, the fact that the criminal is still visible can cause some social strife, but the golem will find friends who accept who she is!
Ask me questions on my Curious Cat! Feel free to ask questions to either me or one of my characters.
If you're so inclined, I'd much appreciate it if you'd buy me a coffee!

I could see this big dramatic story of some cult wanting to release some long imprisoned dark wizard and effectively threatening the life of the golem in the process. Her group of adventurer friends trying to protect her while they do their best to wipe out the evil cult and keep their friend alive~
Wait, if they're made of glass, and the belly only deforms once, does that mean the prey can't move at all? To me, that would be the worst thing about this.
But what's the point of making the prey immortal? Why not just let the prisoners die in there, at least when their natural lifespan runs out?

The way I imagine it, the inside does not quite conform to their exact shape (because they'd be moving around while it happens) and remains more or less round. So they can move around a tiny bit, but not much.
Making the prey immortal was an unintended side effect, but since it works so well at keeping them captive, hey, at least they're still removed from society.

Glad to see a remake of this piece! I thought the concept was very interesting when I first saw it. I think there was another piece that either you or someone else made a while back that was similar, with an invisible predator and visible prey, with the prey just hanging there in midair. I loved that one too.
I think the golems are incapable of getting the wrong person -- like Kira, they're attuned in some magical way that draws them towards the direct target.
What we really need to worry about is whether anyone has ever made one of these for a reason they shouldn't, like to get rid of a political rival or something.

That's potentially an issue! I imagine that, if there's a concern about someone on the outside trying to use magic to free the prisoner, they have a few possible options:
1) include a security detail to make sure that the golem is kept safe, or
2) try to keep the whole operation on the down-low and ask the golem to keep their belly covered when out in public for, say, a few hundred years.

Here's a fit of horror, what happens if the swallowed person is innocent? The real criminal framed them, the one who made it was corrupt, or the golem got targeted to the wrong individual? You say the golems are as alive as they can be, but the poor soul inside doesn't deserve the fate. What then?
Idea for a world-building thing:
There's a group that's super racist against the golems, and some who had the same train of thought i did, "what if the swallowed person is innocent?" so they go around trying to smash them, not caring who the set free. Always wearing masks and cloaks that hide their identities, so they can never suffer the fate of the ones they are "liberating".

I know you probably won't answer with how long it's been since this post. But I wanted to ask.
HOW durable are these glass golems? Like. If I threw a hand grenade into their mouth. Would they explode? Would a normal lightning strike break them? Would he weight of an elephant ontop of them do it?

I don't know if I have a definitive answer here? My general thought was basically just "very, very strong," like most normal damage wouldn't even chip them. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're invincible! A hand grenade in the mouth might be pushing it, but they also might be fine!
