Being mentored as a mage involves more than just learning how to fling fire. Another part of being a magic user is one that involves potions. And what do you need for potions? Ingredients!
As such, Ol'Nanna Grumch often sends Eclair out to hunt down various ingredients, in this case the leaves of a Monster Shrub, which have restorative properties. Of course, something called a "Monster Shrub" won't give those leaves up without a fight.
For Eclair this servesas both an opportunity to practice her fire magic as well as appreciate what many other spellcasters need to go through to further their studies.
