Inspired by the real life Little Mermaid statue in Denmark, this is a bit of a story piece; Ezili is quietly reflecting on the beauty that surrounds her as many ages ago, it used to be a thriving community in which her ancestors lived a prosperous life. But their home started to dissolve, meaning they would be losing their lives. Part of the community parted south to lead normal lives. The other half stayed in hopes that their homes would remain safe. Sadly, more and more of their home would succumb to the depths of the artic ocean. It wasn't until the leader of the community found a way to survive; exchanging their polar bear forms for that of merbears. Ezili is a descendant of that ancient community, and as happy as she is in her life, she often wonders about how life above water was before the powers that they be decided to sink her former home as there is a lot of wonder and mysticism above the water.
The story of the Little Mermaid, both the original and many of its adaptations including the iconic Disney film, is really a story about seeking something you can't really get. In this case, she wants to live not on any land, but the land her ancestors built and strived in, a time long forgotten by time and her people.
