Both of my versions of Christopher Thorndyke from Sonic X! To the Left is Christopher "Cryo" Prower from Through the Monitor, who after his parents' deaths, was adopted by Tails' family. To the Right is Christopher the Hedgehog from my ShinSonic universe, who was adopted by Sonic's parents - the Royal Family of Mobara - after his parents' deaths, but before he was turned into a Hedgehog.
Both have special powers - Cryo' powers are mostly Water and Wind Chaos Abilities and is classified as a power type. Chris the Hedgehog is a Speed Type like his big brother, and has the ability to phase through objects or create a solid wall/platform of an unknown energy, though only for a moment.

Let's see.. his parents are murdered by Eggman before he ever meets Sonic in the second story.
His Uncle blames him for his sister's death because Chris had limited use of his powers at the time and feels he could have done something. Eventually he's adopted by Sonic's Family.
He meets his grandfather later, but he's a bit too eccentric to raise him.
The SA2 Adaption works for him like it did in Sonic X, meaning Shadow pummels him.
Sometime thereafter, Helen is attacked by a criminal, and Chris tries to use a Chaos Emerald to increase the strength of his powers, and it ends up turning him into a Hedgehog. This is how it works in ShinTerra if a human with special powers tries to use a Chaos Emerald.
There's more stuff, but those are the highlights up until his TF.
