The owner of this 1955 Ford F-100 pickup was SO proud of it and so accommodating. When she saw me snapping photos, she hurried over and offered to open up everything for me. “Would you like me to open the door?” “The hood?” “Oh, you should take a picture of THIS!” “Did you get a shot of THAT?”
Without her enthusiastic cooperation, I would not have thought to take a photo of the heater until she opened the passenger-side door and pointed it out to me. It was literally too hot ano pportunity to pass up.
NOTE: I mistakenly referred to this as an air conditioning unit until femmpaws pointed out my error. Hey, I never claim to know anything about cars! I just think they look cool... or in this case, hot.

You can tell its a heater because of the grill/fins. They get warm and a fan usually blows from behind. Even if no fan, they get very warm. The air conditioner just has vents that for many Ford models for many years were round and chrome.

Considering the batteries, F-series used to have, this thing must've been very useful as parking heat, to give you couple hours of warmth without running the engine. (You could even leave it on for the night, since most of the oldtimers still had a crank-start built from the factory)
