6 of Swords, or 'Science', is a card of transition and change, a kind of rite of passage; reversed, it is unfinished business and resistance to change. I chose Spike for this card because of his connection with growing up -- there was the Greed Growth incident, then the daydream of being a big buff hero against the Diamond Dogs and failing utterly, and the whole molting thing -- he always has difficulty with his own personal progress, often with great consequences.

Here, he is depicted on a boat, looking nervously at the choppy waters, stirred up by a version of his older self which is vast and hidden in the waves -- only six spines are visible above the waves. However, the water farther out is tranquil, suggesting that when he crosses a certain point, it will all be, as it were, smooth sailing.
