I'm older, but yeah, it was a fun take on a beginner's RPG. Good, intuitive systems, a story with just enough layers to always be pulling on them until the end, and a party of customizable characters that you couldn't really screw up on, as all making the wrong leveling decision meant was a bit more grinding to correct it. Oh, and Good New Game Plus, one of the better examples of Early DLC, and Toripo being a character, and voiced by Mr. Toriyama helped a lot to give in the feeling of a project of love.

Then they decided to make Lost Odyssey so you were aware of how little your life matters, how futile trying to do the right thing is, and how evil will always win no matter what so you might as well not try. To be fair, that was mostly the 1000 Years of Dreams, but given those made up a good 20% of the game's narrative, and constantly hit you with that stuff.
