Yup, we caught ANOTHER opossum at work today. This is the 4th one since I've been there. He's still young but this one was too big to catch by hand and he seemed agitated. One of his ears is partially missing, his right eye was kind of glazed over and he smelled VERY strongly like an honest to god decomposing carcass. I don't know how an otherwise healthy looking animal could smell like a dead body but this little guy did. o_o I think this is the closest to a zombie I'll ever see in real life.
The same possum rescue people came and picked him up so if he needs some kind of vet help they'll give it to him.
Seriously though look at dem teeth. Jeez.

I work with opossums at a wildlife rehabilitation center and can tell you from experience you don't really want to mess with an agitated oppie... They have 50 very sharp teeth and it hurts like a B to get bit by one. Additionally, the smell that you were subject to is a natural defense. They USUALLY only produce this smell when they temporarily go into their self induced coma, what we know as "playing possum", so that they really do appear dead both in body and smell. :) The more you know... lol
I swear I've learned more about these things in the last couple months than I ever have before simply because of how many keep coming onto the campus, lol. I didn't even catch this one, I let other people do it this time. This one was a lot more unhappy with what was happening than the other 3.
