Manatee aliens! These guys are a peaceful people who eat algae and other sea plants, and traditionally roam the warm, shallow bays and reefs of their homeworld in nomadic herds. Their language is made up of low-frequency humming, and snout-whisker touches for more intimate conversation.
Even though they need adaptive technology to communicate with many other species, and even more advanced gear to leave the water, most are very friendly and don’t mind going to the extra effort.
transcription of the image text:
- The transparent cerata on their backs are full of chloroplasts (from algae) for photosynthesis
- They breathe air and water– muscular openings around shoulders pump water over gills in “armpits”
- Out-of-water gear– water filtration, antigravity, and two-way translation all in one
- Their human conversation partner is using auditory and visual translation tools: an earpiece and a holographic screen
- Their out-of-water gear includes a touchscreen in front of their sensitive whiskers– touch is an important part of communication!
