aaaalrighty so for the ranger character i kinda wanted to even out the strengths and weaknesses of both the character and the animal companion and thought most of the ranger abilities could go to the bird (tracking, favored enemy including the feats granted by the hunter subclass, the extra attack, the fighting style, etc...
and the kitsune would get only the spell casting, the few proficiencies with tools, the ability to move more easily through certain terrains and the mid-fight stealth
in terms of interactions and rp Agusta is pretty much the pc because her outgoing personality tends to make people ignore the much more timid steve which, is partially wanted by her out of jealousy
oh and the 'hunter's mark' would benefit the her despite being casted by the ranger
soooo basically both are parts of the ranger class but individually wouldn't do as well and would be worse than a regular pc on their own
