this is the end of an era no further reference, yes I use references all good artists do. anyone who thinks that is lazy dose not understand the creative process. i thought of this project to celebrate and remember the characters that influence my work. they are sorted by how much each one has effected kolohes final physical features Mulan, Lilo, Jade/ Jackie chan adventures, Kagome/ Inuyasha. to begin Kagome and Jade were my first influences. I saw Inuyasha when i was a teenager and thought of doing something like it with ferrets. Inuyasha formed my mentality on anthropomorphism, i do not reference off of many other animal characters, I think of kolohe as a cat girl, not a literal this is a ferret. being unable to completely mimmic what i was seeing in Anime, i bought a how to draw Manga book witch was greatly helpful for the early stages of Kolohes development. i sort of wanted kolohe to be a mix of kogome and Jade. Starfire from Teen titans influenced her heavily as well, i have many influences i just included the ones that are the most important, i got really into Anime looking at cat girls and lucky star all the time. then in freshman year college i wanted to move on to this impressionistic semi realism phase. all i wanted to reference off of was Japanese water color and Gougan paintings, kolohes mask came from this phase because i was looking at the natural world. unfortunately this was not good for formatting comics. The next phase was the Disney phase, i watched lilo and stitch, Mulan and pocahontas as a kid but found a new appreciation for what they were trying to do as an adult. look at these character designs, Mulan is clearly Chinese. Lilo is clearly Polynesian. my style trys to take the best aspects of both. with the character designs being closer to Disney but the detail work is still based on Inuyasha and Jackie chan adventures
