I stopped in the music store to buy a strap for my new mandolin and, on impulse, walked through their acoustic room. That’s where I found this Seagull M4. The design is based on a mountain dulcimer, but it is made to be held like a guitar instead of on one’s lap.
This photo clearly shows off the dulcimer-like arrangement of strings, that being two singles and a pair. The tuning is D-A-D-D but I plan to experiment with some alternatives. With this tuning and the dulcimer-style fret arrangement, it is impossible to play a C-chord. Bummer. The M4 is inexpensive, simple and fun to play. As you can see from this photo, it is proudly made in Canada.
