So here's something that may be a precursor to a "series" I'm thinking of doing. To anyone who watches me (thank you all) and draws, these will be for you. As you may’ve noticed I draw lots of bodies, and have learned a lot about how they work. I'm anything but an expert, but I'd like to share some tips I've picked up :)
When drawing a group of muscles, there are many things to keep in mind. In this instance, know that muscles have functions, and therefore they contract and relax to move various body parts into different positions. Here I've drawn a set of relaxed and flexed arms to show how muscles change size and shape depending on the pose. Up top, the bicep is "stretched" and is not doing work to pull the forearm upwards, which is one of it's primary functions. Below, there are two illustrations of the bicep contracting to pull on the forearm and pivot it around. The bicep changes shape when it is engaged, from a long slender form to a round, stout one. When I realized this, everything I drew felt much more alive! Hopefully this helps some of you too 💙
