For the 100 Themes challenge - #7 - Heaven
I was having trouble thinking of anything that wasn't SUPER DUPER CHEESEY. This theme was annoying me. ><
Until one day I realized/remembered that Amaterasu's name has the kanji for heaven IN it. So. That was the answer.
+ opportunity to draw "chibiterasu"
=win.

Some Wikipedia for ya: Amaterasu (天照?),
Amaterasu-ōmikami (天照大神／天照大御神?) or Ōhiru-menomuchi-no-kami (大日孁貴神?) is a sun goddess and one of the principal Shinto deities (神, kami?).
The meaning of her name, Amaterasu-ōmikami, is "the great august kami who shines in the heaven"
Also, at several parts in the game they make jokes that wouldn't make sense unless she was female.
(I forgot who specifically, but a character in the game remarks on how they see a beautiful 'maiden' and Issun makes a smart remark about it to Ammy.)
And the two special moves you are thinking of are: 'Golden Fury' and 'Brown Rage' (I think I got that right)
One, she pees on them, the other she does a shit-bomb.
Btw, female dogs can easily piss like male dogs, so that isn't confusing at all. Usually only submissive females squat when they pee.
PLUS, c'mon, EVERY TIME YOU FREE ONE OF THE GODS, the say:
"Ah Amaterasu, mother to us all."

That's pretty obvious.
I'm a little over zealous about this because, even though Okami is an amazing game, I'm shocked that not a lot of people know enough about Japanese culture to make the clear connections. Or have even ever bothered to research anything about the Japanese culture that makes such a big impact in the environment and characters in Okami. :C

Sorta close, Amaterasu was born from the left eye of Izanagi as he purified himself in a river and went on to become the ruler of the Higher Celestial Plain (Takamagahara).

The thing with the emperor, is that Emperor Shōwa declared he was a descendant from the gods.
Japanese mythology is unlike Judeau-Christian beliefs, in Japanese mythology there are multiple deities, AKA, multiple gods. Not one singular all-seeing, all-knowing god.
Which is why in the game, Amaterasu, has to free all the other deities in order to unlock her full powers, for she is only the deity of the Sun.
I actually learned most of this in Japanese class, but I am using Wikipedia for convince sake.

For me, That white wolf named Amaterasu should be the Japanese's sun goddess, Amaterasu, in wolf form, and she is a girl. And in the game make me feel that Ammy is a female too. So it is a female to me. But funny trough, Ammy was really into the Ninetails's boobs when he was in a human form, and so did Issun too. That makes me like "Ammy... what are you doing? x3". Well that was fun! :D
Ammy is so fun! She also notice that she was standing in the air while walk inside to the Spider boss. Haha. Aww the minds. Love you Amaterasu! I'll pray for you forever!
