Yeah, I've been gone for a while actually, but that can't be helped ... meanwhile, I guess this is actually pretty timely ...
I ran this up a few months ago (and it's been proving popular on dA for a while now), to celebrate the impending (now actually here) DVD release of Avatar, specifically for one of deviantART's groups' competitions, although it was actually something I'd come up with myself, having been wanting to try it out for a while, and I suggested it and was surprised when they took it up.
Anyway, here's my OC Heidi Roman as a Na'vi/Satyr gene-spliced "avatar" - basically my take on how she'd look if she went through the process. I had enormous fun with this one, and was enormously pleased with the end results - this has easily turned out as one of my best pieces since I went digital, and I'm proper proud of it. I'm especially pleased with the markings, which were a fun kinda torture when I was colouring it, and the background, which I think does a pretty decent job of capturing the bioluminescent beauty of Pandora's night in the jungle. And also of course how I kept the spirit and style of the character, even while giving her this new twist ...
