While the Dominion Starfighter is a very capable and versatile fighter craft, sometimes you need a bit more firepower... and this is where the Dominion Gunship comes in. Based on ancient Lucifer Gunships, these large and intimidating craft come armed with quad heavy blaster cannons, eight concussion missile launchers, and six proton torpedo tubes. An additional twin heavy cannon turret covers the rear, and these craft are also often equipped with heavy proton torpedo bays, allowing them to fill the role of bomber as well.

Unlike how some sci-fi franchises portray gunships, the Dominion Gunship is not a troop transport, and is designed specifically for laying down sustained blaster and missile fire while its heavy shields and armor compensate for its slower movement speed, and the bulk of the ship's hull is occupied by various generators and reactors to power its weaponry and shields.

While the ship packs a lot of firepower, it is large and bulky as a result, and not anywhere near as agile as typical starfighters. Typically, they are escorted by more agile multi-role or interceptor/escort fighters to keep them covered while they make their way toward their target, and are usually deployed against larger ships and ground targets rather than being used in fighter-to-fighter combat.

However, as the Dominion is generally at peace, these ships actually see far more use in an essential yet rather mundane role--clearing space lanes of asteroids, meteors, and other drifting debris. Their heavy armament and shielding makes them quite effective at pulverizing space debris while avoiding being damaged by any fragments that may scatter in its direction, and vaporizing what's left with its plasma cannons.
