So when I picked up this Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 magnum (it was a bargain!), a pal told me that a gun with a 10 inch barrel had a big drawback: It just wasn't concealable. Well, upon getting it home, I found I had a holster and jacket combo that hides it quite well. I can even sit down wearing it, and it doesn't show. Of course, posting photos of the rig on the Net kinda kills the "nobody knows I got it on me" thing....but hey, if I ever NEED a .44 magnum for anything, concealability will be the least of my worries.

Oh my god, I didn't think anyone who didn't paint their face would wield such a thing. Thank you for proving me wrong, you professionally silly man. :D
http://magnumresearch.com/Expand.as.....ode=BFR460SW10 down the line when I have money, if that's still made there is a 100% chance I am adding one to my collection. It is 17.5 inches long total, same length barrel with another inch in the cylinder with a bullet twice as powerful as a .44 magnum. Go find a tape measure, and measure out 17.5 inches. It should be about the length of your arm from the elbow to the tips of your fingers with your hand flat.
When I held a .45-70 model at a gun store, it took a significant amount of effort to comment on the heft of it (which the salesman perceived as a bad thing for some strange reason) rather than begin laughing maniacally as a result of holding a pistol that's very nearly capable of blowing someone's entire body off.
I'm going to shoot mine one handed on a fairly regular basis.

nah, .30-30 or .45-70 are all I'd try with that, but I'd still probably go .460 S&W since it matches or exceeds most .308 but still lets you use ammo that is cheaper (.45 colt, .454 casull) when desired.
If I get anything with a relatively short barrel in .308 it's going to be an RFB, which is to my knowledge the most compact auto-loading .308 rifle commercially available. It balances in the hand though, so I'm definitely going to try and fire that one handed too like some kind of ridiculously overpowered and even-more-gigantic handgun with a 20 round magazine. Don't think I'd try to dual wield them, because even factoring in the loss due to reduced utility, it would probably cause some kind of coolness singularity. That would make a pretty sweet armament for some kind of power armor or robot though.

I've seen a mosin nagant with a bullpup stock fired one handed like a pistol. It had quite a kick, but was manageable, and .308 and 7.62x54R are fairly comparable. The RFB extends beyond the hand about 6" less than a 10" BFR, the extra length just goes out back. And of course it wouldn't be EFFECTIVE, but it would be AWESOME because it's half giant pistol, half short rifle, and has lots and lots of bang.
I'm positive I could actually make hits on things, just not with the degree of accuracy I would manage using it as a rifle (not firing both guns at once). I'd use it as a close up test of how a .308 interacts with thoroughly shaken diet soda before it loses all its energy while traveling, since any other time when I use it as a rifle it will probably be pointed at something as far away from me as is physically possible without leaving the gun's range of 600-700 yards (may not always have access to a 700 yard range). Be nice to know I could use the thing one-handed if needed though.
I have an Old Model Super Blackhawk with the 7 1/2" barrel, myself. If I'm carrying that, I don't bother with concealed. What's fun is I'm the original owner. So, yes, I've had it a long time. And I have the old leather cavalry style holster, too. I usually wear it cross-draw.
If I wanted a concealed revolver, though, I'd have to take a hard look at the Super Redhawk Alaskan, in .454. That's one I'd never want to stand in front of. Or beside, for that matter.

Actually the 10 inch barrel gives the .44 Magnum a great ballistic advantage.
I have a Marlin .44 Mag Carbine and a S&W M29 4inch Barrel.
The difference is about 1000 FPS.
Things the pistol can dent like 1/4 inch steel plate the rifle simply blows completely through.
Under 100 yards the .44 Magnum from a rifle hits harder than a .30-30 from the same gun.
Plus the big bore and heavy bullet don't hurt either.

Dude...?
If you pull back your jacket and flash that at someone trying to cause you trouble and they don't turn around and walk away like they're being pulled off by a rope tied around their waist, something is wrong. If I saw someone go to pull a gun that big, I would be talking so fast to get them NOT to pull it and prove I wasn't trying to cause trouble, I would sound like some kind of auctioneer at a country auction!
