When I got this job a few years ago, I had already had a year of exotic animal experience and was a biology major, so that helped, but a lot of places need volunteer help badly, and they don't really require any prior experience :3 And then places tend to prefer volunteers that have already been trained when they hire new employees :3
I taught mine to come up to a raised forearm. You get some scratchs sure but you dont get knocked on your tail.
