Okay so remember this abortion? Yeah so I wanted to try my hand at painting again BUT this time using a tangerine on my phone (yes, seriously) and woah what do you know it turned out pretty okay this time. The more I look at it the worse it looks, though. The eyes are too small, the nose isn't angled right, the angle of the tail makes zero sense, the tie is too small... meh. It's finished now. Or abandoned, if you follow a certain philosophy..
So for those that don't know, Dr. Potan is one of the important characters in a wee PS2 game called THE DOG Island, developed by Yuke's and published by Ubisoft. It's a really sweet game with an alright storyline and okay gameplay, but it's also super relaxing and honestly I'd be a lot more stressed right now if I hadn't revisited it. I played it way back in, like, 2006, 2007, something like that, back when I first got my PS2. I know I was younger than 10 at the time, so suffice it to say it's been a long time.
I was listening to the soundtrack of the game while working on Pelted Warfare and ended up going "Fluff it, I wanna do another piece with the tangerine!", so I went and did him. Had to do like 5 sketches before landing on something good looking enough to be made into an actual finished thing. I *was* gonna make him bipedal, but ended up angling the trapezius too high and it looked like a dog's back sooooo yea
Anyways, here's the song to go with the image. It was the one I listened to on loop while starting the drawing and getting the inspiration for it, though the rest of it was a mix of listening to Illuminaughty on YouTube and listening to the entire game's soundtrack on loop, minus a few shorter songs and the intro song. And the game's soundtrack ROCKS, like, the cave one is my favourite, but loss and the boss fight theme are soooo good too.
You should get the game's ISO and emulate it (it runs surprisingly well, even on laptop battery mode) or play it on an actual PS2 if you have access to one. Seriously, it's a really charming game and it's great for just letting off steam. Just don't let the puppy be eaten by a snake, bear, gorilla, crocodile, or worse.
