After spending ages trying to come up with an ideaa for my OC and finalise the details, I eventually got around to drawing him in inkscape.
(Updated sheet slightly)
Starblind is a Unicorn, who formerly worked as a test pilot for probe missions in space. Formerly, because he was born around 300 years after the events of the show, and subsequently was employed to work as an astronaut at the new space programme funded by the Equestria Government. After a few missteps starting out in the fledgling programme, he quickly got the hang of operating smaller, single pony spacecraft. He stayed mostly in reserve, whilst others travelled to the Moon and established satellites in orbit around Equus. Eventually though, it was his time to take to the skies.
Scanners detected a sudden pocket of magic emanating out in the middle of the void. Magic that felt familiar strangely familiar. And so, a mission was planned to send a one pony craft close to the anomaly and utilise onboard sensors to get a much clearer picture of what this was. So, Starblind donned his suit, and was loaded onto the rocket, before it propelled him into the blackness of space. Following the schedule set out, he guided his vessel towards the target, all the while having mission control helping him along the way. After a day and a half travel, they came within a few kilometers distance, the sensors sending back high quality data from the tear. However, as he got close, he suddenly found that the craft had turned in towards the tear. Firing retro thrusters and manuvering thrusters did nothing, as the hull rattled and shook from the intense pull. Starblind could hear capcom shouting into his headset, but there was nothing he could do. His craft contacted the tear, before disappearing into it. A couple moments later, the hole closed itself, leaving a mortified mission control.
Starblind, once enveloped, felt the craft buckling and creaking all around himself. So violent in fact, he did see the loose video camera come flying at his head, knocking him out cold. The last thing he saw, was roiling purple light outside the window, and the electronics turning off.
Eventually, he came to, heavy eye lids glancing at his limply drifting limbs. The next thing that hit him was pain, and slight panic. His head was ringing, a nasty black bruise to the right of his horn. Unbuckling himself, he attempted to figure out what happened. Power had been partially restored, the oxygen filter and pump were functional, as well as a few controls. Aside from that, his couldn’t rouse the engine, and vision was poor, save for a torch, and the light of the sun. Having no control, the only movement his craft was undergoing was the force that had ejected him from the apparent wormhole. Looking out the window, he could see Equus below. It's gravity well had caught him, and was dragging him down, which was significantly better than drifting through the void until the oxygen ran out. Days passed, and the extra days had nearly exhausted the oxygen and water aboard, but that was fine, as he was about to hit atmosphere. Worryingly, it was night, and the landing site would be on land, as opposed to the sea.
Strapping in, and priming the parachute button, he felt the craft judder one last time as they collided with the atmosphere. The heat shield took much of the edge out of the sudden roaring, burning mass of metal the vehicle had just become, streaking through the Equestrian Sky. Once he broke atmosphere, he let loose the chutes, feeling crushing feeling of rapid deceleration as they opened. Minutes passed in total silence, as he grew closer to terra firma, as he gripped the buckled of his seat as hard as he dared. Then, with a jarring crash, the craft touched down, accompanied by the sound of twisting, groaning metal as landing struts buckled. His craft had apparently landed half on, half off a rock, which caused it to tip, bashing Starblind around. Shakily, he got to his hooves, and gingerly opened the door. Fresh, natural air flooded in, replacing the hot, carbon dioxide rich mix that was polluted with stale body odour.
Pulling himself out, he discovered he was in a field. Rolling lines of corn blanketed much of the area, his craft happening to be located in a mostly barren area. As he jumped down onto the soft grass, he was suddenly ambushed by a pair of armoured Thestrals, Luna's personal guards. Sputtering at the two, they ignored him, as they gagged and blindfolded him. Hours passed again, with some travel apparent, seemingly by old fashioned sky chariot. When the mask was ripped off, he found himself face to face with the night princess, Luna. After many hours of interrogation, the two came to some mutual understanding of what had occurred.
Whatever the hole had been, was some sort of wormhole, linked 300 years into the past. The magic detected through the portal had been magic from Equestrian Ponies all those years ago. His craft had destabilised the tear, causing it to close. With his craft mostly damaged, with the components of the rocket being multistage, he was now stranded in the past. No job, no friends, no family. A deal between the two, was however, struck out. If Starblind would help to reverse engineer the components on his ship, he could have residence within Canterlot.
With no other choice, he accepted. Slowly, he integrated into society. Much more primitive than the one he knew, but still holding much of the same standards and values.
A more quiet, refeserved individual, he mostly keeps to himself, but can become more vocal if needed. Can sometimes fall into depressive episodes, due to the loss of everything and everyone he knew and loved.
