Outisde of the Naval Air Museum is is the F-14 that they have (didnt see one inside so I assume this is their only one) F-14 was designed with range in mind, and is why they have a huge nose and use phoenix missiles. One of my fav modern day navy aircraft, even if it was retired recently x3

yeah, its a shame its gone, it can still out range and out speed the F-18. Was built to be a air superiority fighter and make sure no aircraft came near the battle group, something that F-18 wasn't specifically built for. Granted the F-18 is still a nice plane, just, their asking it to do to much in my opinion.
