This is awesome! The way you did this, it isn't super duper cutesy. Which people do when they draw a chubby character. I really like how you did this. Its a bit more realistic to my eyes. Something I really need to learn.

That's sort of something I've had trouble with. Cutesy is cute and great for artwork, but there have been times that I've wanted a character ref, and people were either afraid to draw him like this (presumably as not to offend me.. which is nice, but I'm not under any disillusions here) or their style just like.. makes him skinny + a round belly or somethin'. It wouldn't be a big deal except I can't really use that as a reference to my murrrsona. :(

I know exactly what the both of you are talking about. Even for myself for a while it was hard to get past the "Super model plus a belly" thing for hefty characters. Not sure if being of the pudge myself assists in knowing where to put it and how it lays and such, but once you sort of figure out how things plan out, it's alot simpler. =3 Being hefty can be flattering if you know how to appreciate it.

I really like this. Pleasantly chubby, not too much or too little. And I think the soft, minimal coloring adds to the relaxed feel of the pic.
