Meat Quest: Ugly Fish
One of the biggest potential issues with the Geoterra Project is, ever since its inception in 2004, all of the mammal species present have been sapient--including traditionally "prey" species like cows, deer, and so on. That leads to some uncomfortable realities about where carnivores get their meat... having your neighbors over for dinner might have an entirely different meaning!
I've thought about possible solutions to this problem for years, while I'm not necessarily opposed to sapient hyenas hunting sapient zebras, I feel like there should be some other, less ethically and morally questionable options available. One such option I've considered many times over the years is fish, and they have been hinted at as being part of this world in the past, although this is the first time I've drawn any. They are also the first new species introduced into Geoterra canon in over a decade.
These are the Ugly River Fish. Pictured are the child and adult form. Not too good looking, and not too bright, either, but capable of some rudimentary water-based combat magic to keep predators on their toes, and able to move around on land just well enough to get back to the water should they manage to defeat a would-be fisherman! They also have tough, scaly plates protecting their soft, delicious bodies, adding another layer of challenge for anyone looking to turn them into sushi.

Don't worry, it's not quite smart enough to know what calling it "ugly" even means!
All kidding aside, I think it's that sort of "ugly" that's actually cute in a certain way, and I do quite like this design myself and find it aesthetically pleasing--even if it's a big ugly mutant carp-bass thing.

That too! It's just a combination of fish features, this is how I used to design a lot of my creatures back in 2005 or so, just combine features from a lot of similar animals into one. Although, I should probably design a couple variations of this thing, a catfish version could be fun and possibly designing a couple variants that live in the ocean could be interesting.
It always blows me away what people are interested in seeing, I guess I get stuck in this mindset that my watchers only want fat cartoon animals in underwear, or in diapers, or babies, but then I post a random monster fish or a building or a vehicle and it gets way more attention than I expect it to.
