Interesting.
Are these chess pieces just left outdoors at public parks and recreational areas?
Or is this something that someone might have built on their personal property?
I know that if we had such a thing in an American city such as Chicago all of the pieces would be stolen or vandalized within one month.
Not that it matters, you can't really play with even a couple of pieces missing.
For some reason people seem to want to destroy everything nice that we have. Just takes a few bad apples to ruin a fun thing

That's bad :<
Well, this one is left outdoor on a private area of the rehabilitation hospital Sonnenblick (Sunview). So they are kinda safe. In the 8 Years they are used now, just 2 of'em had been stolen and 3 got destroied. But they were replaced.
I do not know, if there are also ones in the public cities, in Marburg there is no other one.

Well then I guess senseless destruction isn't an entirely American ideal.
I just get tired of having to have everything bolted or chained down. Why can't people just have decency to not just walk away with any item that isn't secured under lock and key.
Maybe there are more pick-up trucks in the USA then there are in Germany.
Anyone can toss a giant chess piece into a Ford F-150 (which some people just drive for fun around here).
It's harder to shove a giant Rook into the trunk of a BMW or VW
