A sketch of another of my STRAY HELIX™ original character designs.
This is Darwin, she's a bio weapon - partnered with the hero of the story (I haven't put up any artwork of him yet). She's in a kind of "embryo" form in the above sketch, but she'll look less like this and more like a kind of hybrid bird/dog/lizard in the actual STRAY HELIX™ manga when I get to arting it.
Darwin was originally the hero's pet, a friendly rhinoceros hornbill/toucan crossbreed with an unusual genetic mutation manifesting itself as a third wing which juts out awkwardly from her lower back. Darwin becomes a bio weapon through a number of fated events which also affect her partner - the hero of the story - in a similar manner.
Reforged and reborn as bio weapon, Darwin is composed of both biological and technological elements. She eats food like a regular organic creature, but also devours technology - adapting mechanical components into her own body.
She can transform into a number of alternate modes, the earliest manifestation of which is a broadsword/rifle cross combination, but these transformations are limited by factors yet to be disclosed.
The more technology Darwin devours, the more forms she can transform into - provided the energy required for said transformations is available.
Darwin starts out small, but her mass increases exponentially as the series goes on.
Most significantly, after being reforged/reborn - Darwin's third wing ceases to be a hindrance, and instead becomes the most powerful weapon at her disposal. Her third wing now appears to have space-folding capabilies... but Darwin is unfamiliar with using this ability, and risks causing injury to herself and allies as she and her partner struggle to control this power.
To be continued another day...
