Description:
Feral Hunter's true form is the legendary artifact, the mighty Feral Thorn seed blade; a blade that has marked the victory of countless battles over the ages. The sword's alien biology marks it as a paragon of durability, and when held by a worthy warrior, the seed sprouts, blossoming into its powerful blade form. Affixed with a red lantern ring, the blade gained sentience, and utilizing the ring's power sprouted into full bodily form. Its humanoid form retains the durability of its alien material and is able to harness its ring's red lantern powers, making it a frightening force to be reckoned with.
Abilities:
- Able to shape itself into its humanoid form, its legendary blade form, or into a dormant seed-state
- Extreme durability
- Passively supports a life sustaining environment in its local vicinity.
- Red Lantern Power Ring: Protective aura, flight, hard light body-augmenting constructs (typically a sword in its own image), energy blasts, rage-energized chlorophyll, rage infliction
Extraneous Factors:
- Full control of mental faculties: Feral Hunter had life, but not sentience, until it was affixed with its red power ring. The sentience it was gifted retained a semblance of awareness of its history with War, and unlike most pre-established minds that are lost to the madness and instincts of rage, Feral Hunter was created from it, bearing it with a natural sense of rationality.
- Due to the nature of Feral Hunter's biology, the removal of its red power ring will not send it into a death of cardiac arrest as it would most red lanterns, but rather forces it back into its natural seed-state.
- Feral Hunter's unique biology allows it to sustain itself with photosynthesized photonic energy. It can use this same energy to slowly recharge its power ring.
Allies:
- Justice Society
- Titan team
Enemies:
- Red Lantern Corps
Backstory:
After they learned of its legend, a Red Lantern Corp expedition team discovered and laid waste to the ruins of the Skeithian solar system until they discovered the Feral Thorn seed. None among their expedition's ranks were able to awaken its power, and so it was taken to Ysmault, where Atrocitus ordered a range of experimentation to be performed upon it. Among which, the Feral Thorn seed was dipped into the Lake of Blood, and its sentience began to germinate. This came to fruition when later, a red power ring was affixed to the base of the seed.
With the ring's energy, the seed's sentience was fully recognized, and it sprouted at once, blooming into the shape of the legendary blade. But before Atrocitus could wield the weapon, the Feral Thorn utilized its newfound sentience and the ring's energy to bolster its transformation further yet, and in the same moment took on humanoid form; chosing to sculpt itself into the form of its former wielder, The Hunter.
And therein took on the moniker of Feral Hunter.
Having been used to forge centuries of war, having been used to slay its brethren seeds, and having never had a choice in its actions, Feral Hunter recognized it had a choice now. It recognized the rage of war in its ring, in Atrocitus, in the world of the red lanterns, and in the red light pumping through its own chlorophyll, and it decided for itself, to no longer be used at the bidding of others as a weapon.
In a desperate flight, Feral Hunter sped away from Ysmault, and from Atrocitus and the Red Lantern Corps. Narrowly evading their wrathful pursuit, Feral Hunter was saved by a young green lantern recruit from Earth, who took it to Earth's Justice Society to find out what to do with it.
Once Feral Hunter was deemed safe, the Society placed it as a new initiate into a Titan Team along the eastern coast United States.
