24gb is the limit for the Z400, so I guess you may need to upgrade... I'll have to see what I have on hand.

Well yes, but also because most threadrippers go up to 256gb of addressable ram and epics can go as high as 1-2tb.
If you had the money i would say threadripper for what you do.

Ehh just informing you, didn't know if you knew that much or not.
Besides, you don't have to get 'new' parts. a first gen thread-ripper can be had pretty damn cheap. At the very least i was offering some input for possible things you can upgrade to down the line..

No problems, it's been years since I kept up with the latest and greatest so any info is useful. And they are talking about used but still nice gear. (People upgrade and the 'old' stuff is still hotter than what I'm playing with, so to me it's a good deal and an impressive upgrade.)

If you're not planning on doing a lot of this work, and are more looking to do covers or such, you might find some sort of cloud based rendering service cheaper in the long run.

True it might be cheaper if I was just doing it for my book covers, but as you might have noticed I like to 'play' with things. To be honest I've spent more on DAZ figures and props than I've made on my books, but like most hobbies the dollar cost/value has little to do with the fun of playing around with it.

Though like any beginner buying a pro paint set, fancier/faster toys won't mean better art - just that I can see my mistakes faster!
