The breeze carried with it the unmistakable ring of metal on metal, whispered in the air behind him.
Ulrik sharply turned, nearly tripping over himself in surprise, and came muzzle to muzzle with a ghostly Aspeides face in the blackness, its gleaming eyes mesmerizing him. The gray specter held two blades in his hands, one darker than the night and the other shining like a fallen star. They flashed in the dim firelight and cut the air with a sharp whistle. Ulrik felt a sharp chill in his chest and throat, but when he grabbed for his sword and turned to call for the others, searing pain sent him to his knees in shock. Before darkness shrouded his eyes forever, he felt a final surge of fear at the spurt of blood from his torn throat.

Photoshop -- considerably less layers on this one ;) Thought I'd keep my sanity with only a few layers this time. Sort of a speed paint if you will (meaning about 8-9 hours, which is about as speedy as I get).
