I'm uploading this, so everyone knows that I can write music, too. Trance music, in particular.
Actually, I wrote this song last year. I was rather a little unhappy with the quality on that time, though, so recently this year, I decided to make an updated version, so that it sounds even closer to professional quality, with more added sound effects, and fixed some instruments.
A note about the title... "Indah" is one of two Malay words for "beautiful", as in "a beautiful scenery". (The other word is "cantik"; though the same meaning, it's far more commonly used with people and objects.)
This is the short "radio edit" version. If you want the full 8 minutes 38 seconds version, you can obtain it at http://www.soundclick.com/marwangreencritter/.
Done entirely in ModPlug Tracker alone (OpenMPT, to be exact), because I'm still unable to legally own a copy of Reason or FL Studio yet. x_x;;

Thanks. =) Actually, the entire song was made out of just samples alone. (In fact, the entire file size of the source IT module is over 6.75 MB!) Not a single VST instrument was used.
Still, I'd appreciate it if I know where I can look for any free VST instruments out there, especially the ones specialized for producing trance music. x_x The disadvantage of using samples is that the output sounds a little muddier, because of the internal real-time sample resampling of the tracker's sound mixer.
Also, ModPlug Tracker was never meant for quality productions in the first place, anyway. (Other tracker music softwares like Madtracker and Renoise were specialized for that, but I never used them, because at the moment, I can't pay yet just to obtain the WAV renderer. x_x) Still, at least I've managed to prove that near-studio-quality productions is possible within ModPlug Tracker, under the hands of a long-time experienced user.

well, I can't tell you where to find stuff specially made for trance music for free, but I do know of many retro VST plugins which I use for my MPT VST stuff... synth1, xhip, ymvst, egokiller, mda dx10 (later incorporated into fruityloops, but the early version was free).
The most trancy free VST I used was "Cheeze Machine", which you can hear as the main pad in my song Formula 14 if you wanna know what it sounds like.
I know what you mean with muddy samples on MPT -- the new versions are starting to offer a new non-realtime way of modulating the notes, but any new technique they introduce can theoretically break timed samples at certain pitches, such as those with hard-coded phase filters. It's no problem if you design your song around it, which you'd probably be doing anyway if you were going to use VSTs or any studio (ie: non portable) features...
Is there a good place you get your samples from? I'm still dumping mine from my keyboard, and inspiration has been stale for years cause most places I find have pretty generic samples.

Most of the samples used for this song are all came from several module songs I've came across over the years... So much, that I'm no longer able to tell where most of them came from. These samples are mostly generic, so I edited them in a WAV editor to get the sounds closest to what I need (such as stereofying a normally monoaural pad sample, adding "punchier" sound to the normally bland kickdrum, etc.). Some of the samples are mine, though: Those "whoosh" and windy sounds were made from pregenerated white and pink noises, which I then played around with MPT's internal sound filtering effects to get those sounds.
You can try going to http://www.modarchive.com and see if you can find any module songs with the samples you need.
