Except he wasn't even an American dragon anymore. Eastern dragon vs. western dragon. You can argue it doesn't matter because America is a melting pot - but that's not the point.
The core identity of the series was changed along with the art style. It should be remembered that cartoons, and all visual storytelling media for that matter, are a merger of their story and art. Changing one too abruptly can disrupt the continuity of the other. It's not like a novel where any art is ancillary to the story. So even when the art is objectively better the visual shock can still be too much. Just look at the revulsion that was levied toward the revised Sonic. The art was overall objectively better but some revised features of the main character were worse enough to merit outrage. This is partly why so many live adaptations fail. Familiarity drives people to watch these things; removing that familiarity can be catastrophic.

Honestly, it was still American Dragon to me. The tone just got more mature and serious, rather than overly silly. And the show was never about Easter vs Western dragons, it was about Jake, and him protecting the magical and human worlds. That's still what he did in season two so yes, it was american dragon. Jake was still the frist American Dragon, and he was still our main character.
also, you can NOT compare the art style change of ADJL to the Sonic movie. ADJL was jsut an art style people weren't too happy with. Sonic literally was extremely uncanny valley, ignored a lot of some of the character's most iconic features, and was so creepy it cold legitimately have given some people nightmares.
the major issue of the new Jake was jsut that the art style made him not look as "Cleanly" drawn. he appeared less buff, and more like a kinda lanky, thin but long type dragon (Which, if you think about it, consiering his mom's side of the family, it'd make sense if he had some traits of an eastern dragon)

he DID look a lot like his original self, just in a different art style.
and the reason the series was cancelled was because Disney didnt want it to keep going, NOT because there was not demand for more. People still love the series and in fact most people PREFER season 2 because the writing is just so much better, they can look past the art style. I've seen multiple petitions over the years begging for the show to return.
Just because the art style changed a bit, doent mean he's suddenly a different character. He wasnt hard rebooted, his design just changed. He looked more angular and rough, but the design was the same mostly. black spikey hair with green edges, a red jacket with yellow striped shoulder pads, an undershirt, the only major change was he wore shorts instead of pants. And as I previously stated the major changes to his draogn form, admittadely, they were a lot different, btu they make more sense due to his lineage for himt o look a bit more like that (Again, I STILL PREFER THE SEASON 1 ART STYLE, I'm not saying S2 is better), I'm saying season 2 took a risk with art style and it didnt pay off. but that doesnt meant hat he is suddenly an entirely different character
that's like saying that because Kim Possible changed her mission outfit after a few seaons it's suddenly not KP anymoer

Look, I'll say it again. They changed the American Dragon from a western to an eastern dragon. It's great they thought to maintain the general style of their human forms, but I think most furries can back me up on this, people don't watch the show to see a bunch of humans blathering at a breakfast table. They changed the one character who mattered far too much and everything else was consequently too hard to overlook.
And no, I checked the second season's ratings. Within a few episodes American Dragon was already falling below Dexter's Laboratory; a show that'd been canceled 5 years earlier.
People always say there's support & petitions etc. Well that's fine and dandy but a small base of rabid fans can't keep a show going. The Firefly & Stargate reboots proved that in dramatic fashion. Both were petitioned for a reboot and both studios lost a lot of money.

No, he wasn't changed from a Western to an Eastern, he was given some mroe eastern influence...his dad was american, and his mother's side of the family was chinese, hence it'd make sense if he was a mix between.
Also, you'd be one of the first peopel I ever met who watched a TV show PURELY because you found a character sexy. usually, people watch shows because they enjoy the characters, and the stories they are involved in.
and yes, because the initial reaction was very knee-jerk due to the art style change, but people enjoyed the writing of S2 so much more. look, I hate to inform you, but there's more to an animated tv show, movie, or anything really, than JUST the appearance and art style. It isnt the only thing that matters. So yes, people do "watch the show to see a bunch of humans blathering at a breakfast table"
literally the only MAJOR negative change to jake himself was that his dragon form didn't look as appealing. His change was nowhere near as drastic as you are making it out to be.

If people "enjoyed it so much more" the series' popularity wouldn't have tanked. Go look up the ratings. They were at a series high for the first episode of the second season and by the 4th episode it was at a series low and still dropping.
The facts are right in your face and you still blather on about how popular it was. It wasn't!!! Only the first season was very popular.
Also, your mischaracterization of my opinion as sexual is extremely offensive. You disgust me.
I'm blocking you for your ignorance and rude behavior.
