I like the idea that they are not actual feral snakes, but instead be a bunch of extra eyes and sense receptors for a complete 360 field of vision. And they'd move like ears, being influenced by emotion most of the time and with the ability to be controlled consciously.

I read a story somewhat with this idea :)
and I really love this Idea more than most of the medusa characters where the snakes are on their own

You know, I never really thought of it that way.
The reason I don't like gorgon hair is that I can't help but think how annoying it must be to have 10 or more feral snakes connected to your head doing its own thing.
