Well, I do a lot of practice and studies behind the scenes. :D So, that may be where there are big jumps of improvement between each piece. hehehe
I wouldn't say that I'm trying to add more realism, but it is definitely something that will be showing up more in my art in regard to anatomy. I am learning to art of finding plenty of references to use while creating art so that I can make my pieces aesthetically pleasing but still stylized. Like, this should clearly be a fox because I am emphasizing on a fox's distinguishable features by using references I found online. :3 I don't want it to look TOO realistic, though, because that's not what I'm interested in. So, I try to keep it as loose but still believable as possible.
Also, another thing that I am working on is using photo or real life references to lighting so that way I can make things even more aesthetically pleasing if the lighting looks believable.
Soon enough, I will be incorporating backgrounds. I will most likely have to do those on the sidelines in personal art, though because the time spent on those would make the commissions pretty expensive. :3

You went into a lot of detail there... speaking of detail, I have to say this is the most of it you ever applied to a single character because I went for a quick look at the first page of your gallery, and the appearance of this is so radically different from everything else you have on there. 😳
The reason I have a history of liking your art so much is that you have the best form for drawing characters; the bodies are anatomically correct (for the most part} and the art style is nothing like anything I have ever seen before.
Another thing I must add to this compliment is this might start the final stage of evolution in how you draw characters. Really, I cannot see how this style can be made any better, in my opinion. I remember some of your older art and can see, with no problem, a clear lineage of what eventually turns into this.
You have very little of a history in drawing backgrounds, but that does not mean you cannot excel at them right now. I am excited to see what you will be drawing for them, or if you decide to create a world of your own (considering you mentioned personal art).
Yes, I know this is a saying you are super familiar with by now, but I want to commission you so bad... have not done so because of not being ready, had other things to do, and the fact you were (and currently are) working on so many other commissions. Have a clear idea of what I want and when I want it. Hinted some of them to you in older comments of mine and plan these as birthday gifts to myself (one month and two days from now). Definitely want 3 icons and a second part to my last commission.

I tried to do things fairly quickly, too, since these are "Quickies". It's hard for me to not want to slow down and hyperfocus on details.
The thing that I have always been good at is learning really fast. So, if I study enough, I will be able to easily create believable and aesthetically pleasing backgrounds. It just takes time and practice and more and more studying to keep improving as an artist! :D I hope to keep improving. The things I struggle with the most is lighting and colors... which is what I think most artists struggle with at first. So, I have been studying the science and principles behind them. I started out with tutorials online, and now I am also studying with books from some of my favorite artists... like James Gurney, for example! I bought this book of his a while back and have been indulging in it when I can. I just bought this book from him and am waiting on it to be shipped. The first one was so good, and I HAD to buy the second one. <3 I also bought a 12-hour-long tutorial on digital painting from a reputable artist that I am in the middle of watching when I can. So, I'm basically in at-home art school except I am finding the teachings as I go and trying my best to enjoy is as I do. :3
In order to paint (or draw) from life (or imagination), you have to know how to break it down into manageable steps first. That's what I am doing by learning lighting. I used to look at how the sun would case light and shadow onto a wall and wonder how artists are able to paint something like that so aesthetically... but now that I am coming to understand the basic fundamentals of light, when I look at various objects around me, I can name some of the parts of the lighting and shadows and why they are there. It makes it so much easier and less intimidating when you know why things do what they do.
Don't worry about taking your time on commissioning me. I'm in no hurry, so let me know when you're ready! :D

For something that was done quick, the detail in it is of superior quality comparable to this picture that had a higher cost to make.
Very rare example (and the best one) of your attempt at creating a background... I know you cannot see a lot of it, yet what can be seen, it perfectly compliments your art style with it not trying for realism.
Another thing you have little history with is applying realistic light/shade to the characters in your art. I remember in the picture you made for me the shading on it was very good for a very simplified style. Not sure if anyone has ever told you this (or you read it in one of your art books) but think of light as being the direct opposite of shade in terms of where it is shown on the figure; these are my words to you.
A basic trick you can use is to take one of these point a flashlight at it, then take a picture, so you have the basic idea of where light and shadow appear on different parts of the body.
On the subject of me wanting a commission, that is my expected date to do so; it may change depending on what I am doing that day/week. I feel like you deserve it after rewarding me with your progress and the beauty of that commission I love to talk about. The fact you love your art so much and wanting to talk with me and others about it is a big part of your magic.
Wait until you see how nicely I draw backgrounds, because they are present in my brand new reference pictures.
