Honestly the one on the right looks like a "catch-all" tech item. Like today's phones, but better. Plays music, lets you keep logs, manages money, variable security clearance key card, in built map scanner doozits, all the bells and whistles a member of a space faring group of people could every need and more
Ahhhh. I love this sorta stuff. Both comparing 'universes' and within one universe comparing different races technology choices. It's much more work coming up with multiple ways to cut the same cake but super fun to think about how culture has influenced the design problems and so on.
