Seeing
paperplane's speedpainted environments inspired me to do some of my own. Watch him if you aren't already!
Also scribbled some kind of weird monster dude on the right halfway through and couldn't bring myself to get rid of him.
Here's a few, disorganized custom brushes:

I dont remember which ones I used/what combination but I used the pencil tool almost exclusively and not the brush tool for these :3 low opacity, like 20-30% and then turned it up whenever I needed. I don't paint with pen pressure for opacity settings.

Gray background
Made a palette of two darker shades of gray and one lighter to eyedrop off of
Looked up environment/composition ideas via reference folder or flickr
Painted quick thumbnails in grayscale on a new layer
Looked up color ideas/reference via reference folder or flickr
Painted overtop on a new layer or three, depends. I use the pencil tool (various settings), lasso tool, brush tool (various settings), dodge/burn, eraser
Painted overtop with a Soft light layer to bring up contrast
Adjustment layer (usually level or color balance)

I don't know if that will help me any, but I really appreciate the effort! :D
I wanted to mention a favorite but I have a hard time choosing. Initially its a toss up between top middle, top right, center right, bottom center, and bottom right. But the more I look at all of them, the more details I find that make me like them more. So I can't decide. ><
Again, really, really amazing.

I adore the garden pic with tall trees/bush trees. It looks so well trimmed and nice. I have a thing for nice gardens, they are like a sanctuary for the mind. And the upper left is awesome too, there are something exciting about big forests that is housing unknown creatures. If I was rich I would have hired you to paint my dreams.
You're catching some solid lighting and mood here. If I dared to push you, it'd be to try and nail some times of day clearly. Early morning, golden hour, mid-afternoon, yadda yadda. That's the only thing I'm not yet getting from these thumbs. Most of 'em feel like some version of midday (be it a cloudy or sunny day, you've effectively caught both states). You could play with raking shadows, high and low-key settings to push the mood around, too. Two cents, no more no less.
