Presenting Rebis!
This chunky fellow had humble beginnings as a run of the mill artificer under a dragon lord, whom he venerated along with the rest of his kobold brethren. While that dynamic was nice—for a time—Rebis couldn't quite help but feel creatively and technologically stifled by both his environment and peers. His scaly benefactor wasn't all that appreciative of his genius either! And so Rebis summarily decided to leave and travel the world (and other worlds), seeking out strange technologies to study and take inspiration from!
Rebis spends his time alternating between a wandering tinker and general contractor. He often settles down in isolated settlements, using his expertise to help the local populace as a do-it-all handyman. This is actually a front of sorts—it allows him to invent and create while still maintaining a degree of privacy, and comes with the added convenience of amenities that a nearby civilization would typically offer.
Possessed by a keen academic drive, Rebis' overzealousness with learning often gives him tunnel vision—sometimes with disastrous results. His worst slip up caused him to accidentally injure his leg beyond repair. This hardly dampened Rebis' creative drive however. In fact, he used his misfortune as a teachable moment—quite literally—and designed his own prosthetic leg, which he customizes and tinkers with on the regular.
To date, Rebis' crowning achievement persists as the "Rubrum Stones," an alchemically synthesized and crystallized solid with magical properties. These rather pretty (and rather volatile) red crystals are used to power a number of Rebis' creations, and have the curious property of fixed energy output regardless of size. The kobold typically synthesizes a large crystal of rubrum and chips off smaller flakes and chunks of the stuff as needed. His favorite tool actually runs off these smaller crystals; a modular universal tool that looks oddly similar to a power drill. The radial flange can be turned to multiple settings, giving the tool quite a bit of versatility in function—from a precision soldering iron to a ranged heat weapon, and everything else in-between!
