The forest has made a terible mistake here, in that by tricking him and trapping him when they made it seem they weren't going to screw him over they based the whole relationship on exploitation. After all, if he can't trust them why should he hold up to his side of things and bot break free? They've given him plenty of reason ro hate them after all, and bone to be greatful.
