You looked at the VIN and know the engine code.

ooh, ooh im almost positive im wrong but its either because the guy had the hood open and you checked (because there is always that possibility, or because that model came with it.

hmm the 340 has two air intakes so the dual hood vents gave it away?

good guess....340's didn't come with those scoops, but there's one other thing beside the VIN that gave it away.........

Theres and emblem on the other side that says 340. otherwise I got nothing.

I may be wrong, but didn't the 340 have a different hood scoop? Right next to each other rather than spread apart? Plus, isn't the hood painted incorrectly? I thought it was a center stripe on the hood rather than a solid black hood *shrugs*

you are partially right. the hood is wrong; 340's didn't have any scoops, hood was black and it said 340 on the driver's side of the hood, but some people put the scoops on real 340's. there is one giveaway nobody's mentioned....
